Bishop Christopher Prowse launched an appeal on November 9, 2010 to raise up to $1 million for urgent restoration works at St Mary's Cathedral, Sale, the Mother Church of the Diocese of Sale.
The cathedral, originally constructed as a red brick church before the diocese was created, has battled rising damp and a leaking roof for many years.
As a result paintwork is peeling and sections of the interior cement render have started debonding with the brickwork and are in danger of falling off.
